On Friday 18 October, Rotterdam’s own Anton de Bruin returns to BIRD and this one’s not to be missed.
If you’ve been keeping an ear on what’s going on in the local scene, you’ve probably already caught the Rotterdam keybordist, producer and composer Anton de Bruin behind the keys with Dragonfruit or Peter Somuah. But with his solo project, he’s stepping into a world entirely his own. It’s a kaleidoscope of influences, merging dub, afrobeat, jazz, and electronica into one genre-defying unit.
His 2024 debut album Imaginarium already brought him to stages like North Sea Jazz, Valkhof and Grasnapolsky. Now, with new album Sounds of the Eclipse on the horizon, Anton is setting the tone for a next chapter.
Drawing from dub, afrobeat, reggae and jazz, Sounds of the Eclipse reflects on today’s social and political climate. The eclipse stands as both a symbol of societal tension and the beginning of a journey toward rebirth. It also embodies a dive into nightlife and underground culture: spaces of freedom, individuality, and community; blurring the lines between club culture and improvised music. With the album set to release on October 17, the band is ready to shake dance floors across Europe.
We’re always keeping an ear out for what’s bubbling in the city and Anton’s sound is one we’re proud to host. Come through and hear what Rotterdam has in store, live at BIRD.
